Byrd is excited to join with the other Glen Rock schools in establishing a DEI committee for next year. We hope this committee will highlight the rich tapestry of experience both at Byrd, as well as in our surrounding communities, to empower our students to become thoughtful global citizens.
What is DEI?
DEI stands for diversity, equity and inclusion. Diversity is the presence of differences within a given setting. Equity ensures fairness and equal possible outcomes for all. Inclusion ensures those that are diverse actually feel and/or are welcomed.
Why at Byrd?
One part of building future leaders is ensuring students are curious, thoughtful and respectful members of society. As such, the DEI Committee at Byrd will work to celebrate differences in race, nationality, gender, religion, sexual orientation, and abilities.
How can I get involved?
If you are interested in getting involved, please email co-chairs Maggie Jacoby (email@example.com) or Jackie DeVore (firstname.lastname@example.org). We are in the planning stages this summer and hope that a variety of voices will join this committee to reflect the diversity at Byrd.
How can you get started this summer?
See the attached flyer re: the community movie watch this summer. Watch, learn and join the conversation. (Suggested viewing ages are 13 and 16+, please see the common sense media link for guidance https://www.commonsensemedia.org).
